Primary
Our primary education sets our students’ foundations on critical thinking and comprehension skills. This program uses hands-on learning with a multisensory approach to engage students with play-based and nature-based learning. Teaching our youngest students is a critical stage for establishing strong students.
Learning Support
With small class sizes and additional Education Assistant support, each student has the opportunity for individual and small group instruction. The format supports diverse learners and learning needs.
Learning support is part of our school’s curriculum. We incorporate What I Need (WIN) blocks for students to focus on what they feel they need or want to work on. This program encourages autonomy in learning and provides students opportunities to lead in their education.
In the classroom, students study reading using science-based instructional methods. Focusing on phonological awareness, instruction orients itself to each new reader as they practice reading, spelling, and handwriting. Using varied resources, including from the UF Literary Institute, Words Their Way spelling program, and Handwriting Without Tears, teachers take a multifaceted approach to teach learning diversely.
Buddy Program
Cathedral School fosters a Buddy Program to connect our older students with our younger students. Starting in primary, students are paired with a buddy to do fun activities with and become connected with our wider school community. Primary students are innately curious and keen to explore which the Buddy Program fosters through allowing our youngest students to experience a bit of what it’s like to be a big student.
