Christ Church Cathedral School is the educational ministry of Christ Church Cathedral. As such it is the only Anglican School in Canada that is attached to a Cathedral. We are situated in the Cathedral Memorial Hall, built in 1926 at the same time as the Cathedral. The main entrance is on Vancouver Street. The School was founded in 1989 under the inspiration and guidance of Dean John Frame and its first Principal was Ms Laura Heintzman. The School grew gradually from its beginnings to a total enrollment of 75 children in 2001, when Mr. Charles Peacock took over as Head of School on the retirement of Ms Heintzman. Since then the School has grown to take in over 154 boys and girls from Kindergarten to Grade 8. We also operate a full day kindergarten and offer before and after school care. Our staff consists of 13 teachers, the Head of School, his Administrative Assistant, three teacher's aids, two consultants and our Lux Mundi co-ordinators. All our teachers hold teaching certificates from the BC College of Teachers. Our curriculum follows the Ministry of Education guidelines and the Ministry inspects us every four years. Many parents help out in many different ways, such as organising extra-curricular activities, arranging pizza days, helping out in class or in the Library. Our Parent Support Group is active in fundraising. We are ideally situated, close to the downtown area of Victoria. Many educational and recreational sites are within easy walking distance. Our School is particularly well suited to parents who work downtown as our Out-of-School Care Program operates until 6:00 p.m. every school day and is offered most holidays and as a summer program. The curriculum at Christ Church Cathedral School follows the complete range of subjects, programs, and assessment and evaluation procedures outlined by the British Columbia Ministry of Education.
Christ Church Cathedral School is playing an ever larger role in the world of independent education in Victoria. Charles Peacock |
