"Get set, GO!" - Cross Country
We got on the “starter’s block” and opened the season with some exciting races, producing excellent results during our Cross Country season.
Our student athletes in grades 4 through 8 were busy preparing for a weekly race series through the VISSA League, Victoria Independent Schools Sports Association. Our dedicated coaches, Mrs. Kennedy, Mr. Jenkins and Mrs. Hollingworth held practices throughout the week during lunch hours and after school.
Each week our team continued to shine and bring home great personal bests, excellent sportsmanship skills and some medals to boot!

Soccer
Soccer this year was a very short season due to getting sandwiched between the Cross Country and Volleyball seasons.
Our coach, Todd Fitszimmons led our grade five students into a soccer jamboree through the VISSA league.
It was a day of improving soccer skills, meeting new friends and using some strong sportsmanship skills. |
“Spike” in the Season - Volleyball
The grade 4 through 8 students started the Volleyball season in November with their coach, Tobi Blue.
Both senior and junior teams practiced three times weekly.
Each student really committed to the sport and worked at their offensive and defensive skills, learning new plays all the while. They showed their skills off in various games against staff, the students and other schools in the city.
The senior team participated in the Small Christian Schools Volleyball tournament at Pacific Christian School.
They had an outstanding day, sharing their offensive and defensive strategies and showing fine sportsmanship to boot! |

Slam Dunk - Basketball
It’s term two and we are moving into the basketball season with our coach Mrs. Kristin Meissner. It’s a season with many games booked and a basketball jamboree too! We’ll update you later in the season on our “slam dunks”!

“En Garde!" - Fencing
Grade 7 and 8 students learned the footwork and motions behind fencing, thanks to the Capital City Eencing Club.
They enjoyed an exciting 10 week session where they “dueled” it out and experienced the art of fencing. |
Our local Victoria Gymnastics Club used Christ Church Cathedral’s gym as their starting ground in the early 90’s. In our very own gymnasium, they trained an Olympian gold medalist! Now, years later, we use their gym as our very own gymnastics training facility and train our students in kindergarten through to grade 5 in the 10 week medal program. It’s a fantastic facility, with professionally qualified coaches, and a bunch of keen Cathedral School students! Look out Cathedral School gymnasts, this could come full circle as we train and set our goals! Perhaps one day we will again have a gold medalist from very own school.
Swim Team and Club
Our school is full of keen swimmers.
Mrs. Hollingworth and Mrs. Hodges run the team and club through term one and term two. |

The swim team and swim club students meet each Tuesday after school for an hour pool session at our nearby Crystal Pool. The students from kindergarten through to grade 8 get the best instruction through qualified swim coaches of the Tyee Swim Club of Victoria. Each term is complete with a full day swim meet for the swim team athletes.
In term III, Kindergarten through to grade 5 will participate in swim lessons at the YM-YWCA during our PE classes. We are excited to improve our skills and move through the Red Cross Badge cycle. |
Skating Club
Second term, there is an excitement among the students as Wednesday after school our weekly club begins!
Mrs. McKeown and Mrs. Kennedy, the skating club supervising teachers, enjoy skating with the students and helping each to improve their ice skating skills.
We welcome the entire school!
Grade 4 through to grade 8 students are keen to hit the ice.
The primary grades, kindergarten through to grade 3 are welcome to participate with their parents or caregiver too! |
