November 2009
The Kindergarten class has been having a great year together! Please read about some of the activities we have been involved in this Fall.
We began working on a Fall seasonal unit by studying apples, learning about their life cycle, and tasting various apple varieties. The class especially enjoyed using apples in two tasty cooking projects - delicious applesauce and scrumptious (as one
Our Fall study also included learning about leaves and began with a leaf hunt. We collected a variety of different leaves which we then sorted and graphed by various characteristics. We also tried to match the leaves found to the type of trees they came from. In addition, the class painted with leaves, made leaf rubbings, wrote about leaves and created leaf books. child called them!) Thanksgiving mini-apple pies.

The next focus of our Fall unit centered on pumpkins. Our pumpkin study taught us how they grow and develop, and involved the class in a variety of pumpkin books, finger plays and songs.
We enjoyed using our class pumpkin in a several math activities, such as weighing it, counting the number of lines on the outside and measuring it vertically and by circumference.
Our favourite Fall activity was visiting Galey Farms.

We had a wonderful trip there, despite the rainy weather. While on the farm we took a hay ride to the pumpkin patch, choose a pumpkin, went on the train ride around the farm, and visited the animals at the petting area. It was a fun day for us all!
We have now turned our focus to the study of Transportation and Vehicles.
This new unit will also be filled with many more fun and active learning adventures! |
