Junior Kindergarten Yearbook - June 2010

March 2010

Greetings from Christ Church Junior Kindergarten!

March already, where did February go? This month just flew by!

This month has been so busy here at the JK with Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day, Chinese New Years and The Olympics. It has been nonstop! We started off the month with learning about Groundhog Day and we were very excited to hear that spring is coming soon to the island. We made groundhog hats and learned all about groundhogs. Valentine's Day included our pizza lunch equipped with heart crust and lip shaped pepperoni. We also made many different crafts for Valentine's Day including cards for our friends and mailbox bags for all our Valentine cards.  For Chinese New Year we learned about the Chinese calendar through a wonderful felt story and learned that this is the year of the Tiger. We also made a huge dragon out of cardboard, paint, streamers and glitter. We recreated a dragon dance outside with the dragon and our dragon masks.

Our Olympic celebration started with us going to the main campus for the Opening Ceremonies and representing the best country of all - Canada! We all dressed in red and white with flags in hand to represent our country. Over the past couple weeks we have been watching some of the Olympic highlights, learning about the Olympic Rings, keeping count of the numerous medals Canadians have won, talking about the different sports of the Olympics and of course learning about those furry mascots of the Olympic Games. For some art projects we have created our own medals out of clay, recreated the Olympic Rings with pastels, made our own torches to carry in a parade and have recreated some of the sports in our play.
