2009 Christmas Presentation

On December 16th we had our Christmas Presentation in Christ Church Cathedral.

Hordes of shepherds, sheep and angels filled the aisles as the children from kindergarten to grade 5 presented the nativity play entitled “The Raggedy King”, telling the story of how young David, one of the shepherds, was expecting a great rich and powerful King to come, but instead found a ‘raggedy’ King in the manger to whom he played his music as his gift.

Following the play, the grade 6 to 8 students demonstrated their instrumental skills as the band played Christmas selections. Thanks go to all the children who performed so we’ll and to all the teachers who helped to present another great Christmas Performance.

Our concert choir sang for the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall in Christ Church Cathedral.

Christ Church Cathedral School receives an Olympic Torch - Nov. 6

On Friday Nov 6th Mr Fred Blue, husband of Mrs Tobi Blue, our grade 1 teacher and Assistant Head, presented his Olympic torch to the School. He had run with it in Sooke on the second day of the torch relay. He handed the flame on to Chief Gordon of the Sooke Nation.

When we receive the stand our torch will go on display in the School up to the end of the Winter Olympics in February.

Our own team name is the Cathedral School Flames and our team logo incorporates a torch, so it is a very fitting that we should have our own Olympic Torch.

Many thanks to Fred Blue.

The CCCS Talent Show - April 29

On Wednesday April 29th we held our third annual Talent Show at the School.

The students showed off their amazing talents in singing, playing dancing and even stand-up comedy. The staff gave a rousing version of “YMCA”, joined by Mr Matt Lurie, and Elvis even showed up! He acted as MC for most of the show, while Mr Peacock was somewhere else in the building looking for him.

The children and parents were a great audience and we thank Mrs Kennedy, Mrs Trevena and Mme Clarke for pulling it all together and producing such a wonderful show, and the children for being willing to get up there and strut their stuff!

Annual Art Show - March 6-12

For the fifth year in a row the School held its Annual Art Show in the gym from March 6th to 12th.

The whole gym was full of the students art work and many visitors commented on their talents and the talents of their teachers, especially Mrs. Julia Halliday, who teaches art to the students from grade 4 upwards.

On Sunday March 8th Cathedral parishioners had a chance to view the art after the morning services. The quality of the work and the variety of mediums and subjects speaks to the place that art has in the curriculum at Cathedral School. WE LOVE ART!

Spring concert featuring Mozart and Haydn

Students in grade 4 and 5, went to Victoria's Conservatory to a concert at which Mozart and Haydn were present! Before they returned in their time machine one of our students had his photo taken with them

Grade 4 & 5 students at a Mozart & Haydn concert at Victoria's Conservatory

Student Comments:

At the Mozart and Haydn Two Friends Concert I saw a lot of different instruments. I loved the cello the most. It made me feel drowsy and it sounded like my Mom singing a lullaby. I also liked the French Horn: it sounded like a melodramatic hippopotamus singing opera!     A Grade 4 student.

My class and the Grade 5's walked to the conservatory to the Mozart and Haydn Concert. We saw lots of instruments from the string family and a tuba and a French Horn. Two people came out dressed as Mozart and Haydn. They were telling funny jokes.

I liked the cellos because they were calm and peaceful. A big choir sang with the music. The Victoria Symphony put on a great concert.     A Grade 4 student.
